I am researching my Gillen background and need some help. My
gr-grandfather was John Gillen.He was born about 1830 and
married a Bridget Conmy approx.1850/55. We know they had a
daughter Mary born Dec. 1858, daughter Delia born 1860 and son
Michael(my grandfather)born Aug.10,1864. John and Bridget had
a total of 9 children. John died between 1864/68. Bridget
came to USA in 1868. She married Patrick Gray either before
she left Ireland or just after arrival in USA.They had 2
children, Thomas b.1874 and died 1899.in New York City.We know that Thomas
was her 10th child, but there's no info on the one after him.
Patrick died 1889, Bridget died 1903. We believe 6 Gillen chldren died in Ireland
We know Mary was still living in 1900 as she's on the census and we know Delia visited Michael after 1932. Michael died
July 14,1944.We have no info on John Gillen,other than what is stated here. Any info on him (b/m/d) would be a tremendous help in our
researching. I always thought Michael came from Connemara,Galway however, we have no confirmation. I'm told the Gillen name is prominent in Mayo/Sligo areas. As is the Conmy name. If
there's anyone out there that can offer some helpful hints or some definite info, it will be gratefully received. Any
