On the 1881 census their dwelling place was 79 Lower East Street, Middlesbrough, Francis was 47, occupation Ship Caulker (Builder), I think he lost an eye in an accident, I don't know whether it was on the ships and he got compensation, Honora Gillespie was 40, siblings (daughters and sons) Mary A Gillespie 16 (registered birth Sunderland) occupation General Servant, William Gillespie 15 (registered birth Sunderland), Scholar (school child), Francis (grandfather) was 8 (registered birth Hartlepool), Eleanor Gillespie was 6 (registered birth Sunderland), Joseph Gillespie was 4 (registered birth Sunderland), Michael Gillespie was 2 (registered birth Middlesbrough), a Margaret and James Gillespie was 5 months (registered birth Middlesbrough) married somebody called Nellie.
