We have two letters as follows, both written to Agnes' daughter who had left Ahoghill, County Antrim to come to the US. We don't know if the people mentioned in the letters are Mc'Neills or not. Agnes and Cornelius settled in New Jersey.
1918
Dear Violet [McNeill VanEss, my husbands grandmother],
I am still in the same place. I am very poorly. I am hardly able to go about. How is little Agnes getting on. I hope your husband is well [Cornelius VanEss]. I get word from Lizzie regularly. She and the baby are well and her husband is out at the war. Rebecca is well. The last letter I got from her your Aunt Matty is living as yet but she keeps to the bed mostly. I think Mrs. Luflertan (spelling?) and family are well. Only Freddy is still poorly and George came home from the war and died. He was wounded and never got better.
Your loving mother,
Agnes McNeill [my husband's great grandmother]
The second:
August 23, 1921
My dear Violet,
I am still in the same house. As for Lizzie, I get some word from her. She has two daughters and a son. As for Sara McNeill, she is dead about 12 months. She died in Antrim. And for the Ahoghill people, all is well with them. Margret (spelling?) J. Allin is well and working in Prydes factory in Ballymena. Matty died about a year ago.
Sarah McNeill's husband sent her a ticket and money to go to America.
Your loving mother,
Agnes McNeill
