Will Davies 'Transvaal' was a Sergeant (Probably in the South Wales Borderers) who had served in the Boer war. His family lived in Gilfach Goch where his father was deacon in the local Baptist chapel. He was a civil servant in later life, moving first to Blaen Clydach, and then to Ton y Pandy where he was manager of the Labour Exchange.
William married Alice (maiden name unknown) and produced Philip, David Emlyn and William. The family also took in Dodan who had been orphaned, and deprived of her brother Dai (David?) in a tragic swimming accident.
The family home in Gilfach was called 'Emlyn Villa'. Will's father had arrived in Gilfach Goch from Newcastle Emlyn where it is rumoured that an enclosure forced him from the common land he farmed or grazed.
Can anyone fill in some gaps?
