seeking information on a distant relative on my mothers side
she was Dr Frances Elizabeth Hoggan(nee morgan)born 1843
graduated 1866 died 1927.she was the granddaughter of my
GGgrandfather,Capt John Grismond Philipps(royal marines)
served at battle of the nile 1798.the Philipps family
originated from S.wales,possibly Brecon.
I have a copy of a plaque bearing a photograph of dr hogan
with an inscription underneath stating she was physician,
educationalist and philantropist.a biography of her life was
written by O.Thomas,and,i believe,was the first woman to
qualify as a doctor of medecine in Wales.
i know so little about my ancestry,so any information will
be gratefully received.Thank you,Frank(Grismond)Clarke.
