Seeking information on my grandmother Evelyn GOODWIN, born 1910-1919, the daughter of George GOODWIN, a Forestry Commission Officer (India). In 1931, when my mother was born, she was probably living at 230 Honiton High Street, Hackney, London. On my mother's birth certificate, Evelyn identified herself as Mary EVERTON, Domestic Servant of Little Mill, near Paddock Wood, Kent. On 6 Sept 1947 she married Bertram WOODHOUSE (b. 1886, son of Maj. Wyndham Sparks WOODHOUSE, Manchester Reg.).At this time they were already co-habiting at 85 Hereford Road, Paddington, London, Bertram having many years before deserted his first wife and two sons. He claimed to be my mother's father, so the Evelyn/Bertram relationship went back to at least 1930, despite Evelyn claiming to be just 28 years old on their marriage certificate of 1947. Bertram died at their home, Flat 3, 8 South Villas, St. Pancras, London, on 7 March 1955. Shortly after, Eve is believed to have emigrated to Canada with a Canadian serviceman. If you have any information regarding Evelyn/Mary or Bertram, even if it conflicts with my account, please get in touch. You shall earn my eternal gratitude for helping to unravel this mystery!
