Stuart Tait Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 17, 2005
I am looking for my Tate ancestors in Scotland. They were James Joseph Tate b: 1818 County Armagh Ireland and Jane Elizabeth Somerville b: 1819 County Armagh Ireland. They were married in Galsgow Scotland Jan. 3, 1840 and had 6 children in Scotland. They were: George Alexander b: April 6, 1842; Robert b: Oct. 1844 d: March 1846; James b: Feb. 1846 d: March 1847; James Jr. b: March 1848 d: Dec. 1848; Mary Jane b: & d: April 15, 1850 and John James b: May 28, 1851. As you will notice 4 children died in Scotland. The parents were Church of Ireland (Anglican) when they left Ireland and continued the same religion when they emigrated to Canada and the U.S. after John James was born, about August 1851.
The parents, George and John died in North America. This portion of the research I am making good progress.
My problem is getting Birth, Marriage and Death details for the period from 1840 to about 1852.
It is believed, according to Jane Elizabeth's obituary that she and her parents had lived for a time in Edinburgh, but this has not been confirmed.
Any help in the above request woukld be greatly appreciated.
