Donaldson Scotland Jul 11, 2004 Update: John Donaldson Hi there, New info has surfaced from posting on message boards(thanks all!) about my GGFather John Donaldson born about 1854? in Glasgow (not Islay)he may have been an orphan with atleast 1 sister. On Dec 6 1877 he married Margaret (Maggie) McAlister in Campbeltown and settled down as a cooper there raising 8 children. On his marriage reg. he stated that his parents John and Catherine Donaldson were deceased, and his dad was a distillery worker. Margaret said here parents were Archibald McAlister and Janet McArther, the marriage was witnessed by Elizabeth McArthur. I would appreciate any info on my GGFather's siblings or the couples parents, or any info on orphans in Scotland. William Weir named his second daughter Elizabeth and according to the Scottish Children Naming Pattern, I believe the wife of George Weir was an Elizabeth ? Is there a sibling of William Weir born about 1769 with this family pattern researching siblings of ggg grandparents named George Weir and Elizabeth? He lived in Lancashire and had a child with a SARAH BALL, unsure if married. The child was born 10.03.1916 and was named WILLIAM TURNER, he later ran away from home at about 14 years of age. Can anyone help me at all please. I am getting desperate to find out about these people.
