Hi,

I am trying to find out for my stepfather what become of his mother after she left his family home when he was 4 years old, she is one Greta Edmondson born february 22nd 1909 and so is probably no longer living, my stepfather is one Harold Whittall in his 70's and he has a sister eight years older than he, all he knows of his mother is that her maiden name was Greta Edmondson married to his father who was also Harold Whittall, the rest we are slowly finding through research on the internet, we have discovered that her parents were Angelina Harvey and William Edmondson, and the address on her birth certificate gives 8, Marsden Street Barrow, she married Harold aged 17, they had two children one being my stepfather, Greta & Harold's marriage certificate state an Elizabeth Harvey and Eric Stilling as witnesses to the marriage, but that is all we know of her, as i say Greta & Harold divorced and the last time my stepfather saw his mother was when he was 4 years old, he was completely cut off from Greta's family, and basically he just wants to know what become of his mother, did she remarry? did she have anymore children? I mean he thinks she may have been pregnant when she left the family home but he isn't hundrd percent sure, he isn't going to judge her, he just wants to know something about his own mum that's all, obviously if Greta did remarry it is going to make it all the more harder to trace what become of her, but he thinks she may have went to Glasgow.

many thanks.

I'm looking for information on three ancestors:

ALEXANDER MALCOLM MORRISON (b. ca 1760; d. ca 1815, MS). He may have been born on the Isle of Skye or the Isle of Lewis. I have no information on him until he married Nancy McDuffie ca 1794 in South Carolina. They moved to Georgia in 1798 and to Mississippi in 1805.

JOHN McDUFFIE (b. ca 1730, Isle of Skye; d. ca 1797, NC)
FLORA McDUFFIE (b. 1745, Isle of Skye; d. 1833, MS) They were married on the Isle of Skye ca 1759 and had four children before leaving Scotland ca 1772: Murdock, Christian, Nancy (wife of Alexander above) and Norman. Three more children were born to them in NC between 1775 and 1783: Mary, Roderick and Sibley.

Any information on these three individuals will be appreciated. It may be that the McDuffies were from one of the smaller islands in the area and gave the Isle of Skye as their birthplace.

Dear Friends

I work for Leopard Films, a well respected independent film maker. We are currently making a factual series for BBC1 about the experiences of foundlings, adoptee and other people trying to trace their loved ones. The series is presented by Kate Adie herself an adoptee. It is an emotional and sensitive exploration of extraordinary stories. Where families have been separated from their loved ones and have been reunited or are in the process of searching.

Our series will feature the personal stories of foundlings and adoptee and those closest to them, as well as those whose lives they’ve touched, such as foster carers and adoptive parents and siblings or people who might have discovered them as babies.

In each programme, we will present the stories of individual cases taking their stories from birth to the present day by using interviews, press archive and reconstruction filming. We are hoping footage concerning long-ago abandonment’s will trigger memories and calls from the public. Special BBC telephone helpline numbers will be broadcast several times during each programme and NORCAP will be on hand to deal with all initial viewer contact. NORCAP will, of course, use their expertise to ensure their members are protected from hoaxers or anyone with questionable motives.

If you think you can help with our research we would be delighted to hear from you. There would be absolutely no pressure to take part in filming.

You can get in contact by telephone, email or post. Please call me on: 0870 4204232. If you do not get through straight away, please leave a message and a good time to call, and one of our team will ring you back. Our email is janeayoade@leopardfilms.com. You can also contact me by post at:
