I am wondering if I might be able to get in touch with a girlfriend of mine from school through your website. Her name was Hilda Bruce, the last time I heard from her she was engaged to a pre-med student in Glasgow. His last name was Madden, I forget his first name. We were friends at Garscadden Primary School in Glasgow. I lost touch with her because I moved house and so did she at the same time and I never got her new address. If she sees this, or anyone who knows where she is, I would appreciate getting in touch again. Thanks.

Need info on the following Brown family:

JAMES BROWN from Athelstansford, East Lothian. Went to Edinburgh worked as a wright & builder. Was Police Commissioner in Edinburgh at some point. James had at least two sons:

Eldest son's name unknown
PETER BROWN b. June 29, 1784, m. June 26, 1813 to MARIANNE MACKENZIE d/o George Mackenzie of Stornoway in the Hebridean Isle of Lewis. There may be a family connection between Marianne and Alexander Mackenzie 2nd Prime Minister of Canada.

Children of Peter and Marianne Brown:

Jane b. 1814; Catherine b. 1817; GEORGE BROWN b. 1818 in Alloa, Scotland; Isabella b. 1823; Marianne b. 1826; John Gordon b. 1827 in Alloa; James, Peter, unknown son who all died in infancy.

GEORGE BROWN went to America with his father, Peter, in 1837. In 1843 the family moved to Toronto, Ontario where they established a paper called "The Globe" which is now the "Globe & Mail". In 1862, George returned to Edinburgh and married Anne Nelson d/o Thomas Nelson a prominent publisher in Edinburgh. Anne was born ca 1827. The marriage took place Nov. 27, 1862 in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

George Brown was shot by a disgruntled employee on March 25, 1880 in Toronto. Infection developed and he died on May 10, 1880. After his death his wife, Anne, and children moved back to Edinburgh. Anne died on May 6, 1906.

George and Anne had at least 3 children who were all born in Ontario, Canada:

Margaret N. Brown b. ca 1864 m. in Scotland to Dr. A.F.H. Barbour, a well-known physician in Edinburgh.

Catherine Edith Brown b. March 19, 1866 in Toronto married George Sandeman and they lived in Edinburgh.

George Mackenzie Brown b. Sept. 13, 1869 in Toronto. He married and had a son G. E. Brown. In 1910 John Lewis wrote that "The only son, George M. Brown, was in the last parliament, member of the British House of Commons for Centre Edinburgh and is one of the firm of Thomas Nelson & Sons, publishers."

Any info on this family would be helpful.

Can someone tell me what cemeteries are located near Butterdales in the Parish of Dornock in the mid to late l800's.

Could anyone do a lookup for this family in any cemeteries near there or in cemetery or other records: The parents may be my ancestors, as I have a ggmother, Mary Ann Davidson, b l836 or 39 and this couple did too. Also, have found an old letter mentioning ANNAN, which is in Dumfriesshire. Can't think why visiting that town would have been important to non-English descendants visiting England, unless it was because their mother was born in Annan. And Mary Ewart below was b in Annan, Dumfries-shire.

PARENTS: William Davidson, a laborer of roads during the l851 census, b ca l808 or l809 and his wife, Mary Ewart Davidson, b 808 or l807.

William was b in Kirkpatrick, Dumfries-Shire and Mary was b in Annan, Dumfries-Shire. They married July l5, 1830.

Their children:

1. David Davidson, christened 8 DEC l828 in Dornock, prior to their marriage.

2. Agnes b Feb 12, l833 in Dornock

3. George Davidson Christened l Feb l835 in Dornock

4. Mary Ann b 23 Sept l836 in Dornock

5. John Ewart Davidson, christened 20 NOV 1836 in Dornock

6. John Davidson, born 25 Sept 1836 in Dornock

7, Mary Ann, christened 6 Jan l839

8. William, christened 29 AUG l841 in Dornock

9. argaret, b ca l845 or l844, not in IGI, but listed in l851 census in this household

10. Thomas, b. Apr l8, 1846 in Dornock, Dumfries.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, here are some questions.

Mary Ann Davidson was the daughter of a William Davidson of Scotland. WHERE is SCOTLAND? I have no idea, really. According to her marriage record, she was b in l836. She m. William Docker of Westmorland, England. They came to America in l872, when my great grandmother, Agnes, was 2 years old.
According to her tombstone, (by calculation) she was b. 18 JUL 1839.
Which is more accurate? I think the marriage record might be. Her busband was b in l832, and that date agrees with his marriage record of l857, which says he was 25 when he married. I would like to know for sure her exact date of birth, and her mother's name. Can anyone help?
The following are the children of Mary Ann Davidson Docker and her husband, William Docker:
William b l859; d l864
Thomas b l859; d l9l9
John, b l860; d. l946
Robert, b l861; d. l948
Elizabeth, b l863; d l948
Mary, b l864; d l923 m. David Douglas in Montgomery Co., IA
Joseph, b l865, d l891
Edmund, b l867, d. l891
Margaret, b l868, d l938 m. a FRANCIS of Big Rock, ILL.
Agnes, b l870, d l965 my great grandmother m. George W. Jackson in Montgomery Co., IA.
Annie, b l871, d l872
Florence, b l872, d l895
Fanny, b l875, d ? I am looking for FANNY DOCKER and HER DESCENDANTS. CAN anyone help me? She m. Edward O. Pace
